You cannot read a piece of literature about online gambling without reading about the online poker indictment that happened last April. The US Government seized three major poker sites on April 15th 2011 for avoiding US gambling laws and tricking banks into transferring tens of millions of dollars in illegal online gambling earnings. One accomplice for these three companies was Ira Rubin. According to bing.com Rubin assisted Absolute Poker, PokerStars, and Full Tilt Poker with the transferring of illegal funds. He pleaded guilty to counts of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy.
Rubin, who has been living in Costa Rica for the past several years avoiding telemarketing charges, was one of the many accomplices, as well as one of the many who pleaded guilty; other names include Absolute Poker co-owner, Brent Beckley.
The online poker industry may be in a little bit of turmoil but that doesn’t mean that the rest of the industry is not thriving. In fact, there is a lot going on involving rewriting certain Acts and Bills to make online gambling blossom in the coming years.
The one thing that the consumer must do as their part is find the right place to gamble at. There are many sites out there that are not safe to play at. Reading unbiased casino reviews, and checking casino ratings is one way to make your selection. You wouldn’t give your credit card or PayPal information to an online store you don’t trust; why would you give it to an online casino you don’t trust 100%?
